We are proud to share that the International Executive School has collaborated with Sharda School of Business Studies, Sharda University, India, on a chapter published in a newly released academic book. The chapter was contributed by Dr. Khagendra Nath Gangai of Sharda University and Dr. Jimmy Naipaul of the International Executive School.
The chapter, “Human-Centered Approaches to Digital Learning Platforms: Improving Engagement and Learning Effectiveness,” appears in AI, Digital Learning, and Human-Centered Innovation in Education, published by IGI Global in 2026.
At its heart, this research asks a deceptively simple question: what happens when the design of digital learning platforms actually puts learners first? Drawing on a systematic review of 63 peer-reviewed studies published over the past decade, the chapter makes a compelling case that the way we design digital education environments matters enormously, not just for academic performance, but for learners’ motivation, emotional well-being, and sense of belonging.
The findings show that platforms built around Human-Centered Design principles, including empathy, personalization, ethical use of AI, and genuine learner participation in the design process, consistently outperform conventional technology-driven approaches. Rather than treating learners as passive recipients of content, human-centered platforms recognize the diverse cognitive, emotional, and cultural realities that students bring to their learning.
This work has meaningful implications for universities, instructional designers, and policymakers navigating the rapid expansion of online and hybrid education. It makes a strong case that technological sophistication and pedagogical sensitivity are not competing priorities but are most powerful when pursued together.
We congratulate Dr. Gangai and Dr. Naipaul on this significant contribution and are delighted to see the International Executive School represented in scholarship that is shaping the future of digital education globally.
