Healthcare Access and Marginalized Communities in the Eastern Caribbean

The International Executive School is pleased to announce the publication of new research by Dr. Jimmy Naipaul and Dr. Soula Kyriakou, appearing in a peer-reviewed Taylor & Francis journal.

Their study addresses a significant gap in the global health literature by examining how stigmatized minority groups navigate healthcare systems in St. Lucia, a small Eastern Caribbean island nation whose particular cultural, religious, and legal landscape has received little scholarly attention to date. The research draws on qualitative interview data collected across the island, centering the voices and experiences of individuals who face structural barriers to accessing medical care.

The findings illuminate how intersecting forces, including legal frameworks, religious institutions, community structures, and institutional norms, combine to shape the healthcare experiences of vulnerable populations in small-island, post-colonial settings. The study offers concrete recommendations for healthcare providers, institutional policymakers, and legislators seeking to improve equitable access to care in the Caribbean and beyond.

This publication reflects the International Executive School’s commitment to research that is not only academically rigorous but socially meaningful, contributing to global conversations about health equity, institutional inclusion, and the lived experiences of marginalized communities.Read the full article:https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/00918369.2026.2644418
